Gabriel Landeskog ejected for hit on Brad Marchand; discipline coming? (Video)

YouTube

Colorado Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog was kicked out of Thursday night’s game against the Boston Bruins in the second period after this hit on Brad Marchand.

Via SomeHockeyVids:

Landeskog was handed a match penalty for illegal hit to the head. Marchand was given a minor for roughing after punching the Avalanche forward right in the face.

“I tried to let up and then I tried to skate up and apologize and tell him I didn’€™t mean to come across and he obviously he wasn’€™t hurt, with that sucker punch,” Landeskog said via WEEI.

Will Landeskog hear from the Department of Player Safety? Probably. He comes off the bench trailing the play and as Marchand is going through the act of shooting Landeskog is bracing for the hit. He tucks his elbow but takes a bad angle, making contact up high with the Bruins forward.

Will Marchand hear from the DoPS for his punch? Probably.

The hit is eerily similar to the Matt Cooke hit on Marc Savard from 2010.

Marchand, who did not leave the game and said he was OK afterward, missed two games last month after suffering a concussion in Boston’s second game of the season.

UPDATE: Landeskog will have a hearing Friday with the DoPS.
